ICE OUT FOR GOOD

Prompted by the killing of Renee Nicole Good on January 7th in Minneapolis,   Genesee Valley Indivisible (GVI) joined a national mobilization to protest the cruel and inhuman action of ICE and to remember all of the people who have been hurt by ICE in the past year — including 32 deaths.

Several members of GVI were among over 500 activists who joined together on Thursday evening, January 8th, to express sorrow and anger against ICE through signs, chanting, and listening to speakers while standing in front of the Rochester Office of Customs and Border Patrol on Pattonwood Drive in Rochester.

On short notice, 200 people gathered at the Geneseo Village Park at noon on Saturday, January 10th, to express local anger towards ICE and to show support for those who are being mistreated, kidnapped, and even killed by this rogue federal agency.

GENESEE VALLEY VOICES

Genesee Valley Voices is new regular feature of this newsletter highlighting statements, observations, or opinions by members of Genesee Valley Indivisible.

I will be traveling to Albany this week because I am a parent of an immigrant. In Albany I will be marching to support the “New York for All” Act and to support the “Disappeared”. One of the factors that drives me is that 32 people have died in ICE custody this past year.

KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING

Overview

The death of Renee Nicole Good has sparked a resurgence in public protest against the lCE and the Trump regime for all of its other unconstitutional, unlawful, and authoritarian actions: from DOGE gutting the federal workforce to taking over Venezuela, from changing vaccine protocols without scientific evidence to tearing down the East Wing of the White House. The list goes on. Pick your “favorite” 3!

In the 6 days from January 14th through January 19th we know of at least 7 protests and rallies scheduled in Livingston and Monroe Counties! Here is the list in chronological order, scroll down for full descriptions and links to RSVP:

NYS ACTIONS

Support NY4ALL

The experience of Genesee Valley Indivisible members in 2025 has been that local elected officials, in rural, Republica-led counties, are not interested in limiting local law enforcement cooperation with ICE, despite the questionable and sometimes violent tactics used by ICE. For examples in New York State, look up ICE activity in Sacketts Harbor, NY, and in Cato, NY, just to name two examples.

There are state legislators, however, proposing NYS legislation to limit the ability of local law enforcement to use their money and personnel to assist ICE. The legislation is called “New York For All,” or “NY4ALL.”

Support the NY Health Act

When the current federal regime creates healthcare crisis after healthcare crisis, New Yorkers need support from their state.

The New York Health Act would create universal, single-payer health coverage for all residents of New York. This government-funded health plan would eliminate private insurance, deductibles, and copays, and would work with Medicare to simplify care by replacing the current complex insurance system with a public one — eliminating the “middleman” (insurance companies) and covering everything from primary care to dental, vision, mental health, and prescription drugs.
