Last Chance: Don’t Miss a Deadline

Vote like it's your last chance motivational election graphic

Overview

Every election has a string of deadlines, and they pass fast. Missing one — even by a day — can mean losing your say. Here’s what to track and where to confirm the exact dates.

Don’t guess — confirm. Deadlines vary by election and can change. Always check the New York State Board of Elections for the current dates before you rely on them.

Key Deadlines to Know

  • Voter registration cutoff — the last day to register or update your registration before the election.
  • Absentee/mail ballot request deadline — the last day to apply for a mail ballot.
  • Absentee/mail ballot return deadline — when your completed ballot must be postmarked or received.
  • Early voting window — the dates and hours early voting sites are open.
  • Election Day — polls are open statewide; find your site and its hours ahead of time.

Cutting It Close?

If a deadline has already passed or you’re not sure where you stand, don’t assume you’re out of options. Same-day registration during early voting and affidavit ballots exist as a backstop in many cases — check your registration status first, then confirm your options with your county board of elections.
