Genesee Valley Indivisible Welcomes David Cay Johnston

David Cay Johnson

David Cay Johnston will be giving a presentation on “How To Save Democracy” and will take questions from the audience on Tuesday, August 5 at the Riviera Theatre in Geneseo NY from 7 to 8:30 PM. Tickets will be available on 7/17/25 through 8/3/25 at geneseevalleyindivisible.org

In 1988 David Cay Johnston wrote about Trump becoming president someday. He has followed him closely ever since, including his bestsellers The Making of Donald Trump, his 2016 biography; It’s Even Worse Than You Think, his 2018 assessment of Trump’s efforts to destroy civil rights, environmental, and other laws; and The Big Cheat, documenting Trump’s enriching himself and his family during his first term. In 2017 he obtained Trump’s tax return. He also investigated Trump’s long history of favors for a business partner who confessed to being one of America’s biggest cocaine traffickers, the 12- to 14-year-old gamblers in Trump casinos, his hiring of hundreds of aliens illegally in the U.S., his lucrative business dealings with the Russian mobsters known as the oligarchs, and his appalling ignorance about such basic facts as what happened at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

Johnston is a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter who for years reported for The New York Times. He is now a professor at Rochester Institute of Technology where he teaches criminal justice, journalism, and soon legal theory and public policy. Since 1993, Johnston, the father of eight, has lived in Brighton with his wife, Jennifer Leonard, the now retired CEO of Rochester Area Community Foundation.
