“STAND UP, FIGHT BACK!” RALLY REPORT

Travelers on Rte 20A and Rte 36 in Leicester at Noon on 3/21 witnessed 60 activists participating in GVI’s “Stand Up, Fight Back Saturday” rally. The group enjoyed temperatures around 40 degrees and gray skies that did not drop any precipitation. Under the overarching theme of “Stand Up, Fight Back,” there were messages spanning the first year of the Trump Regime: noting DOGE overreach, the Big Not-So-Beautiful Bill, our horror at the thugs from ICE and CBP, general disbelief that the Epstein Files continue to be part of a cover-up, and the unconstitutional war with Iran.

The area around the Village of Leicester was a major stronghold of the Seneca people until the American Revolution. The town was first settled around 1789 and formed in 1802, but the name — originally spelled “Lester” or “Leister” — was changed in 1805 to the current form. (Wikipedia)

Leicester’s Village Park sits right in the center of town and is the site of Genesee Valley Indivisible’s rallies in the town. The park’s gazebo is the setting for the town’s summer concert series and holiday festivals in the winter. (Explore Genesee Valley)

GENESEE VALLEY VOICES

In answer to the question, โ€œWhy protest on No Kings Day?,โ€ a member of Genesee Valley Indivisible recently shared her familyโ€™s story:

My daughter, โ€œElla,โ€ is married to โ€œMolly,โ€ and they live in Buffalo, NY. Molly is a legal immigrant from South Asia. The couple have an 18 month-old daughter. Ella and Molly live daily with the spectre of discrimination due to their same-sex relationship and in fear that Mollyโ€™s legal status will be challenged. They both always carry legal documents. They have made contingency plans for their daughterโ€™s care if they both are disappeared. Finally, Ella and Molly have plans to leave the United States if circumstances become too threatening. Their destination will be 9,000 miles away, in a Southeast Asian country, where they can take refuge with Mollyโ€™s cousins. Neither Ellaโ€™s parents nor Molly and Ella can fully understand why their lives should feel so precarious in 21st century America. I pray that they remain safe and do not have to leave the the country. And, I will certainly be protesting on No Kings Day!
