Withdrawing support for public broadcasting won’t preserve Western civilization
Representative Claudia Tenney (24th District, Republican) has asserted she is in favor of preserving Western civilization, but her Defund Government Sponsored Propaganda Act to withdraw federal support for National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service’s television (PBS) gives the lie to her stance.
Our part of New York is blessed with the classical radio station, WXXO-FM 91.5, a service that showcases the Eastman School of Music and brings the pleasures of organ recitals, hymns and religious music, local artists, and classical music from across the world to this area. Our PBS station, WXXI, has provided us with inspiring Ken Burns documentaries, celestial science shows, literary masterpieces, and top-notch children’s programs, as well as balanced local, state, national and international reporting. These all uphold Western civilization and are a valued service to the community. I would be extremely sorry to see them go.
Defunding good-quality programs is not a worthy way to serve Tenney’s constituents. It’s certainly not a way to produce a society grounded in the tenets of Western civilization.
