70 Days Out: Stop Reading, Start Knocking
The midterms are 70 days away. For months we’ve been learning — forums, webinars, trainings, all of it useful. Tonight Alissa Ellman’s campaign starts training volunteers to knock on doors.

Tuesday, August 25th, 7:00 to 8:30 PM, via Zoom
How to knock on doors, how to deliver brochures, and how to talk with voters who haven’t made up their minds. No experience needed — that’s the point of a training.

If you’ve been waiting for the moment to do more than read the news, this is a good one.
Not everything helps equally. Roughly ranked, most useful first: knocking on doors, making phone calls, tabling at events, showing up to campaign events, fundraising, public performances, postcarding, rallies, letters to the editor, lawn signs. Every one of them is worth doing. The top of the list is worth doing most.
GVI’s own job hasn’t changed: voter education, fundraising, and making sure people in this district know Alissa Ellman’s name.
The Power of the Pen — Tonight
It’s tonight, Tuesday, August 25, 5:30 to 7:30 PM, at the Ogden Farmers’ Library, 269 Ogden Center Rd. in Spencerport.
Five groups, one table, a lot of postcards. GVI is co-hosting with Westside Monroe County Indivisible, the Chili Democratic Committee, Knowledge and Action ROC, and the NY District 24 Consortium.
The cards go to three places: NY-24 voters, to get Alissa Ellman’s name in front of them; Georgia, for voter mobilization; and Chili, for local races. They bring postcards, pens and pizza. You bring the handwriting. It’s about a 40-minute drive from Geneseo, so grab a neighbor and carpool.

Saturday: Banners in the Morning, Pie in the Afternoon
On Saturday, August 29, dozens of groups across New York will raise banners for peace and justice as part of a statewide Bannering Project. Some will be on highway overpasses, some on the ground in high-traffic spots.
Two of them are right here in Livingston County, and you can join either one.
Genesee Valley Citizens for Peace — 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM
Geneseo Gateway Park, across from Wegmans. The banners are big; each one needs at least four people to hold it up. Email info@gvcp.org if you can help.
Livingston County Bridge Brigade & GVI — 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Email info@geneseevalleyindivisible.org for the location and a time slot. Volunteers to rotate in and out are still welcome, so you don’t have to commit to the whole two hours.
Friends from Hemlock Rising and Indivisible Action NY in Dansville will be out there too.
Then: pie. GVI is selling homemade apple and blueberry pies at the August Market, Saturday, August 29, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, on the grounds of the Livingston County Historical Society Museum, 30 Center Street, Geneseo. Every dollar goes to Alissa Ellman’s campaign. The timing works either side of the bannering — come early, or come after.

A Few Short Things
- Worth your ten minutes. The Nation ran a piece on progressive populism and rural voters that gets at exactly what Alissa Ellman is doing in this district — and why it’s working. Read it here, and pass it along.
- Rapid Response Network. There is finally a date. The Rochester Rapid Response Network holds new member orientations on the first Wednesday of every month, and the next one is Wednesday, September 2 at 7:00 PM on Zoom. Take it and you’ll get ICE-activity alerts for Livingston County. Sign up here.
- September 15: the crypto vote. The Senate takes a procedural vote on the CLARITY Act the day it returns. It needs 60, which means it needs Democrats. Our position hasn’t changed — oppose it. One thing worth knowing before you call: Senator Gillibrand is one of the Democrats negotiating this bill, and she has said it shouldn’t move without a provision barring senior officials from profiting off crypto. Ask her to hold that line. Indivisible will connect you to your senators.
Keep the Fall Push Going
August’s matching challenge is over and you cleared it — $500 raised, $1,000 delivered. Thank you. The match is done, but the fall is just starting, and the work it pays for doesn’t pause: literature, yard signs, buttons, and the voter education events that got this many of us ready to knock on doors.
