Trump acting like the American bully

Really? Over 30 million people in a country larger than California? This is the region you want to take over and put “boots on the ground”? And why? Because it wasn’t run by legitimate ruler? You wanted to make you and your neighbors more safe by invading? No. You have no right to invade another country without real provocation, without due process.

No. I’m not referring to Trump and Venezuela. Well, of course, I could be but instead the above statement refers Putin’s attempt to take over Ukraine. Same size as Venezuela. Truth be told, Trump has invaded Venezuela with pretty much the same reasoning. In both cases it was about a larger, stronger country attempting to take over a smaller one. Much like Hitler did in the late 1930s in Europe.

Trump’s justification was that Maduro was not a legitimate ruler and a criminal. So, if the Great-Again America wants to violate other countries to get their “man,” then that is somehow okay. Because we are the bully of the Western Hemisphere calling the shots.

The real reason was immediately telegraphed by Trump. “We’re going to be taking out a tremendous amount of wealth out of the ground” and into the pockets of the oligarchs. Yup. America, land of the free and home of the brave, is going to take over Venezuela oil. To do that “We’re going to make sure that that country is run properly.”

As ever, Trump is mimicking his good friend, Putin and his fascist father, Hitler. The invasion of Ukraine by Putin, the invasion of Poland by Hitler and the invasion of Venezuela by Trump were acts of aggression against countries with which Russia, Germany and America were not at war.

Like Hitler and Putin, Trump is putting his country on the wrong side of international relationships. Make no mistake, history will condemn all three.

Spineless Republicans are rallying around their dictator. House Speaker Mike Johnson called the military action in Venezuela a “justified operation that will protect American lives.” Wow!

I guess we have to swallow Trump’s repeated lies about the lives of 25,000 Americans being saved per each illegally bombed boat in international waters! Because there is no other way that Venezuela has killed Americans. A totally absurd statement. Senate Majority Leader Thune excused the aggression as “the execution of a valid Department of Justice warrant.”

So, police actions don’t honor national boundaries?

Presently, the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on charges of war crimes related to the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children. Then as a member of UN, why not go into Russia and arrest Putin for his crimes against humanity?

I’ll tell you why. Because bullies like Trump are cowards. They beat up the little guys but walk away from the big boys.

Then there was the argument that Maduro was not a legitimate ruler of Venezuela. True. But Donald Trump is no more the legitimate president of Venezuela than was Nicholas Maduro!

What Trump has done is exactly what dictators like Putin and Hitler do to weaker countries: might makes right. And it’s wrong.
