What’s being overlooked with the Epstein scandal
President Trump is now dodging questions and scrutiny about the so-called “Epstein Files”,
and his ‘base’ is obsessed about what sordid details may be waiting to be discovered if/when
they are ever released.
But, the more consequential aspects of the Epstein scandal are being missed. In all of the drama, there has been almost no attention paid to the victims of Epstein. Earlier this year, one of the most prominent victims of Epstein’s sexual abuse, Virginia Giuffre, took her own life. And now, Giuffre’s family has expressed strong outrage, and rightfully so, over the federal government’s transferring of Epstein associate and convicted child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell to a minimum security prison, shortly after she had a secret meeting with DOJ Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. Giuffre’s family released a statement saying, “President Trump has sent a clear message today: Pedophiles deserve preferential treatment and their victims do not matter.”
That seems clear and troubling enough, but there is another grim conclusion to be drawn: Trump only protects elites. That is why Trump cut taxes for the richest Americans while cutting Medicaid and SNAP in the ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’ That’s why Trump and the acquiescent Republicans in Congress rescinded nine billion in funds that decimated the nation’s Corporation for Public Broadcasting, while offering tens of billions of dollars in tax breaks and benefits for the fossil fuel industry.
Trump and his sycophants in Congress are protecting elites. So, who’s protecting you and me?
